STICK TO YOUR ROOTS [3/12/09]

Quote:
What an absolutely wild weekend. I've had my fair share of wild weekends, but this one is for the history books.

Friday was the KRFH party, which was a blast. Alex of Helicopter Showdown played pretty long set, which is always a pleasure; everyone was shit-face drunk, which is always a pleasure; and I ended up getting a ride home; which was nice for a change.

Saturday we went to this rave up a hill in the woods. I don't know if I can come close to describing how outrageous this shit got; if you weren't there you may never really understand.

However, I will try my best.

A lot of my friends go to raves in Southern California; everyone puts on their sluttiest neon-colored clothes, use MDMA variants, pack into a warehouse, and dance to electro all night. The only similarity between the rave I went to and the ones that my friends frequent back home is that people were using MDMA.

I might be better off describing this event in the forest as a gathering of pagan witches and sorcerers, celebrating a full moon with all sorts of spells and potions.

In addition to people rolling their little balls off, you had people using psilocybin mushrooms, lsd, dmt, and cocaine. It was a sight for sure; there were all these little outposts set up around different fires, there was a tent where someone was selling crystals, and there was a dance floor where eerie ambient music was playing.

The people around the fires were pretty sociable, I had a few decent conversations (they seemed decent at the time, I must admit I was lost in space for most of the night) with a few strangers, and so did most of my friends. Occasionally you would see a wayfarer, on some psychedelic drug or another, scampering between flames crying to themselves, trying to find their sanity. It wasn't the most enjoyable thing in the world, seeing all these people having bad trips flying around.

In all honesty, I wasn't having the best time of my life either. I had this creepy vibe most of the night; it felt like I had slipped through time and was back in prebiblical times. The setting felt really primal, everyone was just exuding raw emotion. I was in a really weird mood for most of the night. I couldn't seem to focus on anything, as there was so much going on. I would float between being content and being extremely anxious, and if I wasn't talking to someone I'd have this really overwhelming sense of loneliness, even if I was surrounded by people.

The friends I went with ended up leaving around three in the morning, while I ended up catching a ride home with a friend from work around ten.

I'm glad I could have been part of such an adventure, no matter how strange it was.

P.S. Send me your music/art/writing.
